Types Of Small Wedding Venues In Colorado
One of the reasons you’re likely planning your micro wedding in Colorado is for the epic views the Rocky Mountains offer. That’s why in this list of the best small wedding venues in Colorado, we’ll be focusing in on venues with the best mountain views! Don’t worry- unlike some elopement locations in Colorado, these micro wedding venues don’t require any hiking.
Micro Wedding Venues
Many wedding venues in Colorado are specifically designed to cater to smaller gatherings. These venues offer a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, providing flexibility for ceremonies and receptions with small guest counts. They often come with built-in amenities like catering, decor, and coordination, making planning stress-free.
reservable Overlooks
For couples who love the outdoors, Colorado’s public lands provide budget-friendly and breathtaking options. These spaces are often more affordable (permit fees under $300) and offer unmatched natural beauty. They’re perfect for couples planning a simple, adventure-inspired ceremony.
Restaurant venues
For a cozy, intimate celebration, hosting your small wedding at a restaurant is a great option. Many Colorado restaurants, especially in mountain towns like Boulder or Breckenridge, feature private dining rooms or outdoor patios with stunning views. Restaurants often provide catering, drinks, and ambiance in one package, making them ideal for couples who want an intimate yet easy-to-plan celebration.
Luxury Resort Venues
Colorado resorts combine luxury and convenience with the beauty of the Rockies. Resorts like The Little Nell in Aspen or Donovan Pavilion in Vail feature all-inclusive packages with top-tier service and incredible mountain settings. They’re perfect for couples seeking a polished, high-end experience with on-site accommodations for guests and access to stunning outdoor locations.
Untraditional Venues
For a wedding with a unique twist, consider venues like botanical gardens, Nordic centers, or even art galleries. The Denver Botanic Gardens or Nordic centers in mountain towns provide unconventional yet charming backdrops for your day. These spaces add a creative or personal touch to your wedding, making it feel one-of-a-kind while often providing all-in-one service for intimate events.
vacation rentals
Vacation rentals are increasingly popular for small weddings, especially in Colorado. Platforms like VRBO even allow you to filter for “event-friendly” properties, ensuring your rental can accommodate a small ceremony or reception. Vacation rentals provide a private, intimate setting where you can host both your wedding and overnight guests. Many mountain homes, cabins, or lakeside properties offer outdoor spaces with stunning views for ceremonies and receptions.
When do you need a Small wedding venue In Colorado?
If you’re planning a small wedding in Colorado instead of an elopement (more on this below), you’re going to need some type of venue or location you can reserve for your group.
The reason for this is that most public land (National Parks, wilderness areas, etc.) have limits on the size of a group that can use the space, to protect the natural landscape. Typically this number is around 15 people total, including the couple, guests and on-location vendors.
The more guests you have, the more limited you are to where you can hold a ceremony and the more likely that you need to reserve a venue. However, this number varies based on the location. It’s important for your experience, as well as leave no trace principals, to select a suitable location for your event.
How Group Sizes Affect Locations & Venues In Colorado
0-4 Guests: If you’re planning an elopement with no guests, or up to 4, you will be able to elope in Colorado pretty much anywhere including wilderness areas and National Forests and for most places won’t need a reservation or permit.
4-15 Guests: With up to 15 guests, you still have a lot of location options available on public land. However, some wilderness areas that have lower group size limits may be inaccessible.
15-50 Guests: A small wedding venue in Colorado will be the most suitable option for a group of this size.
50+ Guests: In addition to a traditional wedding venue in Colorado, consider hiring a wedding planner or day of coordinator to help manage your group.
Sound confusing? This is why hiring a local Colorado elopement photographer is so important. A good photographer will have group size and permit information built into their location guide, be knowledgeable on the requirements and help you along the way.
