When To Elope In Breckenridge

Best Time Of Year To Elope In Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge is truly a great place to elope year round! Summer provides lovely temperatures, though afternoon thunder storms are common. Winter is great if you want to hit the slopes or have a snowy elopement. Fall in Breckenridge can be stunning if you time it right. Trying to forecast when the leaves will change is difficult as it changes every year and storms can come through that down all the leaves. However, typically mid to late September offers fall foliage.

Spring Breckenridge Elopement

April, May & June

Spring in the mountains can be quite unpredictable and the trails can be muddy (mostly April and May). It can be 65 and sunny one day, then snowstorm the next! So if you choose a spring elopement, have flexibility or be prepared for the elements.

June is one of our favorites months for Breckenridge elopements. The mountain passes have typically all opened, the mountains are still snow capped, but it’s warmer and more mild. (The photo here was taken mid-May).

Summer Breckenridge Elopement

July & August to mid September

Summer in Breckenridge means that mountain passes are open, the trails are clear and conditions are perfect for an elopement. PLUS the days are long! While mid-day can be hot, mornings and evenings are still cold.

Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Colorado mountains, especially during the summer months. However, these rain storms can mostly be avoided by opting for a sunrise or sunset event.

Fall Breckenridge Elopement

Mid-September To October

Dreaming of a romantic fall elopement with vibrant foliage and crisp mountain air? Breckenridge and the surrounding mountain towns feature aspen groves perfect for catching fall colors.

Peak fall is typically the last week or two of September. Keep in mind it’s always possible for a storm to come through and knock down the leaves early- so don’t get your hopes too high!

Winter Breckenridge Elopement

November to march

If you’re adventurous and enjoy winter sports like skiing or snowboarding, this could be the perfect time for your Breckenridge elopement. However, be prepared for cold temperatures and snowy conditions.

When planning a winter elopement it’s important to be prepared for the elements and have an indoor location you can use as a back-up incase of storms. March is known as the snowiest month of the year in Colorado.

Choose A Weekday At Sunrise

We always recommend having your wedding on a weekday (Monday-Thursday) to minimize the amount of tourists that will be in the area. Sunrise or sunset is the best time of day to elope for the most privacy and best lighting!

Be Aware Of Important Dates

When selecting your wedding date, it’s also important to know of any events in the area that might impact your elopement. For example, there are races, food and wine festivals, art festivals, Oktoberfest and so much more happening every year. You can look at the Breckenridge event calendar to see the events!

“If you’re looking for an amazing photographer, look no further because Savannah & Greg are beyond perfect for the job. Our wedding day went so smoothly and completely stress free and itโ€™s all because of them.”

Best Places To Elope In Breckenridge

Breckenridge elopement locations

As elopement photographers, we’ve spent a lot of time searching for the perfect locations for our couples to get married. We’ve put together a Breckenridge elopement guide for our couples that outlines all of the most beautiful places to get married. In addition to locations, the guide includes local vendor recommendations, lodging inspiration, activity ideas and sample itineraries to make planning as easy as possible!

We keep the best hidden gems secret to keep the privacy for our couples, but here are some of the most popular locations in Breckenridge for elopements and micro weddings!

Dillon Reservoir

Dillon Reservoir, also known as Lake Dillon, is an iconic location near Breckenridge that’s perfect for elopements and micro weddings.

There are a variety of locations around the reservoir where you can get married, from hiking elopements to reservable locations and venues.

Boreas Pass

Not into hiking on your wedding day? No worries. Choose from one of the many mountain passes around Breckenridge and drive to your location! Boreas Pass is a scenic drive with lots of hidden gems to stop at along the way! Perfect for leaf peeping in the fall.

Hoosier Pass

At 11,539 ft elevation along the continental divide, Hoosier Pass is a location you can either hike or drive to the top (with a high clearance 4×4).

Waterfalls

If you’re hoping to stop by a waterfall or two on your elopement day, Breckenridge is the perfect place! There’s a variety of falls in the area that can also easily be paired with mountain views for a best of both worlds. Check out Continental Falls, McCullough Gulch and other hidden gems.

Alpine Lakes

A Breckenridge elopement isn’t complete without a visit to one of the many lakes! Perfect for just admiring as you relax and have a picnic, or do some water activities such as a pack raft or paddle board.

Don’t worry if you aren’t into hiking on your wedding day, there’s lots of options for lakes you can actually drive right up to (like the one pictured here). You may need a 4×4 depending which trail you choose, as some of the roads are pretty rocky.

Hidden Gems

Looking for a Breckenridge elopement location that is a bit more off the grid, away from tourists? We provide our clients with an exclusive location guide filled with the most beautiful spots you won’t find online. We keep these spots off the internet to ensure privacy and seclusion!

Micro Wedding Venues Breckenridge

A small wedding venue may be more suitable for your event depending on what you’re planning. If you’re planning to have a micro wedding with 15+ guests, any structures (arches, chairs, etc.) or would like an indoor/covered option, consider reserving a small wedding venue.

Here are some popular micro wedding venues in Breckenridge Colorado:

Sapphire Point

Sapphire Point is a reservable space overlooking Dillon Reservoir. It’s on a popular trail, so it’s common to have lots of tourists walking by. Unfortunately, reserving it does not limit the public’s access.

Cost: Starts at $120 for 2 hour window
Capacity: Up to 35 Guests
Availability: Year round

Windy Point Campground

There are two sites you can reserve for your wedding, the Forest Loop or Lake Loop. We recommend booking both for the most privacy at this location. Offers a covered pavilion, lake and mountain views. More private and better views than Sapphire Point, in my opinion!

Cost: Starts at $240
Capacity: Up to 100 Guests
Availability: May 18th to September 30th

Marina Park Pavilion

Marina Park Pavilion on Dillon Reservoir in Colorado. It has a covered pavilion, benches, grills and epic views! You can book this venue for your micro wedding starting at only $500, and ranging up to $1500 depending on the season and if you want a full or half day!

Cost: $500 to $1500
Capacity: Up to 90 guests
Availability: Year round, reservation Required may 1st to sept 30th

The Lodge at Breckenridge – The Lodge At Breckenridge offers a stunning wedding deck for your ceremony overlooking the mountains. They also have on-site lodging and food. Plus, they’re dog friendly!

Breckenridge Nordic Center – While this location doesn’t offer mountain views, it does offer a cozy and affordable lodge with forest views and indoor/outdoor options.

Ten Mile Station – Ten Mile Station is a more traditional Colorado wedding venue apart of Keystone Mountain and has expensive pricing, starting around $17,000. It’s available June to October with select winter availability.

Timber Ridge in Keystone – Also apart of Keystone Mountain, but with more affordable packages, Timber Ridge offers mountain views and traditional venue amenities.

Black Mountain Lodge at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area – This ski resort wedding venue is available June to mid-September and features unmatched mountain views.

Main Street Station Terrace – Tucked in the city, this quaint ceremony space offers lake and mountain views all in one.

How To Get Legally Married In Breckenridge

To get legally married in Boulder you will need to obtain a Colorado marriage license. The Boulder County Clerk and Recorder Office is located at 1750 33rd St #100, Boulder, CO 80301. However, you can get your license from any county in Colorado, it just has to be completed and returned to the same office you obtained it from.

You can elope in Boulder and legally get married even if you live out of state. Plus, in Boulder you can self-solemnize (you don’t need an officiant or any witnesses) and you can even have your pet sign your marriage license!

How Much Does It Cost To Elope In Breckenridge?

The cost to get married in Breckenridge starts at $30 which covers your marriage license from Summit County. At a minimum, you’ll likely want to purchase wedding attire, hire a photographer, videographer, florist, hair and makeup artist. You may also need to account for travel, transportation and lodging.

The total cost for your wedding will vary significantly depending on the style of wedding you choose to have. For example, a simple elopement with no guests will be much more affordable than a wedding with guests which you will then need a venue to host a reception, cater food, hire additional vendors, etc. It’s important to note that elopements can be as simple or as extravagant as you desire, there is no set cost for this type of wedding!

Breckenridge is one of the more expensive towns in Colorado. You’re likely to spend more on lodging here, especially during peak season.

The couples that hire us value their photos and experience more than anything, which is why they typically spend majority of their budget on their photography package.
