When To Elope In Breckenridge

Breckenridge is truly a great place to elope year round! Summer provides lovely temperatures, though afternoon thunder storms are common. Winter is great if you want to hit the slopes or have a snowy elopement. Fall in Breckenridge can be stunning if you time it right- typically mid to late September offers fall foliage. The best time of year to elope in Breckenridge will depend on what you’re after, so be sure to familiarize yourself with the climate of Breckenridge. Here is a breakdown of the seasons:

Spring Breckenridge Elopement

April, May & June

Spring in the mountains can be quite unpredictable and the trails can be muddy (mostly April and May). It can be 65 and sunny one day, then snowstorm the next! So if you choose a spring elopement, have flexibility or be prepared for the elements.

June is one of our favorites months for Breckenridge elopements. The mountain passes have typically all opened, the mountains are still snow capped, but it’s warmer and more mild. (The photo here was taken mid-May).

Summer Breckenridge Elopement

July & August to mid September

Summer in Breckenridge is a dream for elopements. With mountain passes open, trails clear, and the stunning alpine scenery in full bloom, it’s the perfect season to elope. Plus, the long summer days give you plenty of time to explore and celebrate!

Keep in mind that while mid-day can bring warm temperatures, mornings and evenings often remain cool, so layers are a must. Afternoon thunderstorms are a regular feature of Colorado summers, but you can avoid most of the rain by planning your ceremony at sunrise or sunset when conditions are not only calmer but also offer the most magical lighting for your photos.

Fall Breckenridge Elopement

Mid-September To October

Dreaming of a romantic fall elopement with vibrant foliage and crisp mountain air? Breckenridge and the surrounding mountain towns feature aspen groves perfect for catching fall colors.

Peak fall is typically the last week or two of September. Keep in mind it’s always possible for a storm to come through and knock down the leaves early- so don’t get your hopes too high!

Winter Breckenridge Elopement

November to march

If you’re an adventurous couple who loves winter sports like skiing or snowboarding, a winter elopement in Breckenridge might be perfect for you! The snowy landscape creates a magical backdrop for your special day, but it’s important to be prepared for cold temperatures and potentially challenging weather conditions.

When planning a winter elopement, having a solid plan is key. Be ready to embrace the elements with proper winter gear and always have an indoor location as a backup in case a storm rolls in. Keep in mind that March is Colorado’s snowiest month, making it ideal for fresh powder but also requiring extra flexibility in your plans.

Elope Monday To Thursday At Sunrise Or Sunset

To keep your elopement intimate and avoid the crowds, we always suggest planning your wedding on a weekday. Opting for a sunrise or sunset ceremony ensures not only the most stunning lighting for your photos but also the privacy to fully soak in the beauty of your surroundings without distractions.

Check For Local Events On Your Date

When choosing your wedding date, it’s essential to consider any local events that could affect your elopement. Breckenridge hosts a variety of annual events, such as races, food and wine festivals, art festivals, and even Oktoberfest, which can impact crowds and availability. To avoid surprises, check the Breckenridge event calendar while planning to ensure your day is as seamless and stress-free as possible!

Here are some popular micro wedding venues in Breckenridge Colorado:

Breckenridge Elopement Venue

Sapphire Point

Sapphire Point is a reservable overlook with stunning views of Dillon Reservoir, making it a popular choice for elopements and intimate ceremonies. However, it’s important to note that Sapphire Point is located along a heavily trafficked trail, so you’ll likely encounter tourists passing by. While reserving the space ensures you have a designated area for your ceremony, it doesn’t restrict public access, so privacy may be limited.

Cost: Starts at $120 for 2 hour window
Capacity: Up to 35 Guests
Availability: Year round

Windy Point Campground

At Windy Point Campground, you have two reservable options for your wedding: the Forest Loop and the Lake Loop. For maximum privacy, we recommend reserving both spaces. This location features a covered pavilion, stunning lake views, and majestic mountain backdrops, offering a serene and picturesque setting. In our opinion, it’s more private and boasts better views than Sapphire Point, making it an excellent choice for couples seeking a quieter, more intimate experience.

There is only one office in Summit County, which is the Summit County Clerk and Recorder’s Office located at 208 Lincoln Ave, Breckenridge, CO 80424. However, you can get your license from any county in Colorado, it just has to be completed and returned to the same office you obtained it from.

You can elope in Breckenridge even if you don’t live in Colorado. Plus, you can self-solemnize (you don’t need an officiant or any witnesses) and you can even have your pet sign your marriage license!

How Much Does It Cost To Elope In Breckenridge?

The cost to elope in Breckenridge starts at $39 which covers your marriage license from Summit County. However, you’ll also want to account for your vendors, attire, travel, lodging, etc.

Your elopement costs can vary dramatically based on your plans. An intimate elopement with just the two of you will naturally be more affordable than a celebration with guests, which often requires a venue, catering, and additional services. One of the best parts of eloping in Breckenridge is the freedom to design a day that’s uniquely yours, whether that’s keeping it simple or going all out.

As one of Colorado’s more premium mountain destinations, Breckenridge offers incredible experiences but can come with higher lodging and service costs, particularly during busy seasons.

Couples who work with us understand the importance of preserving their day through photography. That’s why they often invest a significant portion of their budget in capturing not just beautiful images but the unforgettable story of their elopement in the heart of the Rockies.

Breckenridge Elopement FAQs

Breckenridge weather can be unpredictable, but that’s why we always have a backup plan! We offer weather backup days in case conditions are unsafe or just not ideal. We also scout locations with natural cover and options for last-minute location swaps if needed.

Breckenridge is about a 2-hour drive from Denver International Airport. If you’re visiting in winter, renting a 4WD/AWD vehicle is a must, as snowy roads and mountain passes can be tricky to navigate.

Yes! Breckenridge is super dog-friendly, and many outdoor locations allow leashed dogs. If your pup is coming along, we recommend bringing a friend or hiring a dog handler to help out so you can fully enjoy the moment.

Costs vary depending on vendors, permits, and activities, but a Breckenridge elopement is typically far more affordable than a traditional wedding. Expect to budget for your photographer, attire, florals, accommodations, and any adventure activities you want to include.
