If you’re an adventurous couple looking to get married on top of a mountain with unmatched views of Yosemite Valley and the waterfalls below, this is for you. Taft Point is one of the best places to elope in Yosemite National Park.
As Yosemite photographers and videographers, we’ve documented many Taft Point elopements and want to make the planning process as simple as possible for you! Here is your ultimate guide for planning a Taft Point wedding in Yosemite National Park, including photos, pricing, permit info and more.
Taft Point Wedding FAQs
How do you get married at Taft Point?
PERMITS, PRICING & GUEST COUNT
To get married at Taft Point you’ll need a wedding permit from Yosemite National Park. The permit for this is $150 and can be applied for up to a year in advance.
Taft Point is only suitable for elopements and very small weddings with less than 11 people total (including the couple, guests and vendors). If you’re planning to have more people than this, you’ll need to choose a designated ceremony site such as Glacier Point Amphitheater, Swinging Bridge Picnic Area, Cathedral Beach Picnic Area or Sentinel Beach Picnic Area.
How hard is the hike to Taft Point?
TAFT POINT LOCATION AND HIKING INFO
The hike to Taft Point is 2.3 miles roundtrip with 367ft elevation gain from the trailhead. For the average hiker, this trail is fairly easy and will take approximately 45 minutes each way.
Don’t forget to bring proper equipment for the hike including hiking shoes, bug spray, water, a jacket and headlamps (for once the sun goes down, so you don’t have to hike back in the dark!).
Best time to visit Taft Point
WHEN TO PLAN YOUR CEREMONY
The best time to visit Taft Point is at sunset as you’ll have a perfect vantage point to watch the sun go down behind the mountains. However, this is also the busiest time of day and since this is a very popular location, there will likely be tons of people around (and lots of photo shoots happening).
If you don’t want others around as you say your vows, you may want to consider a different location. As for any elopements, we always recommend a weekday (preferably Monday-Thursday) to have the best chance at privacy on your day.
