Small Wedding Venues In Buena Vista

If you’re planning a wedding with 10+ guests, a small wedding venue may be better suited for your event.

Here are some popular small wedding venues in Buena Vista, Colorado:

Barn at sunset ranch

Sapphire Point is a reservable overlook with stunning views of Dillon Reservoir. However, it’s important to note that Sapphire Point is located along a heavily trafficked trail, so you’ll likely encounter tourists passing by. While reserving the space ensures you have a designated area for your ceremony, it doesn’t restrict public access, so privacy may be limited.

When To Elope In Buena Vista

Best Time Of Year To Elope In Buena Vista, Colorado

The best time to elope in Buena Vista depends on your preferences. In spring (March to May), the temperatures typically range from highs of 40.8°F in March to 52.2°F in May. However, spring can be unpredictable, with occasional late snow storms adding a touch of magic or challenge to your plans.

Summer (June to August) is the most popular time for elopements due to its warm and sunny weather, with July being the warmest month, averaging highs of 70.5°F. Although it’s the season with the most sunshine, be prepared for possible afternoon showers, especially in July. Be aware that at the higher elevation mountain passes, it can still be extremely cold (low 40°F) at sunrise and after sunset.

Fall (September to November) transforms Buena Vista into a vibrant tapestry of colors, with temperatures cooling down from 63.1°F in September to about 37°F in November. This season offers a peaceful and romantic atmosphere, perfect for those looking to avoid summer crowds. Early fall is relatively dry, but as the season progresses, you might encounter cooler weather and early snowfall.

Winter (December to February) turns Buena Vista into a snowy wonderland, ideal for couples dreaming of a winter elopement. Average high temperatures in December and January are around 27°F, with lows around 6.6°F. While the landscape is serene and beautiful, ensure you’re prepared for the cold and potential travel delays due to snow.

Choose A Weekday At Sunrise

We always recommend having your wedding on a weekday (Monday-Thursday) to minimize the amount of tourists that will be in the area. Sunrise or sunset is the best time of day to elope for the most privacy and best lighting!

Be Aware Of Important Dates

When selecting your wedding date, it’s also important to know of any events in the area that might impact your elopement. For example, there are races, hot air balloon festivals and so much more happening every year. You can look at the Buena Vista event calendar to see the events!

how to get your

Buena Vista Marriage License

To officially and legally get married in Buena Vista, you’ll need to obtain a Colorado marriage license. The cost is $30, and the good news is there’s no waiting period – licenses can be issued the same day. Appointments are typically required and can usually be scheduled up to 30 days in advance, so it’s best to plan ahead.

If you’re eloping in Buena Vista, you’ll get your license through the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder, since Buena Vista is located in Chaffee County. The office is located in Salida, and while you do need to pick up the license in person, you can get your marriage license from any county in Colorado. Just make sure it’s completed and returned to the same county office where you obtained it.

You can elope in Buena Vista even if you don’t live in Colorado. Colorado also allows self-solemnization, meaning you don’t need an officiant or witnesses – and yes, your dog can even sign your marriage license if you want. One of our favorite little Colorado perks.

How Much Does It Cost To Elope In Buena Vista, Colorado?

The cost to get married in Buena Vista starts at $30 which covers your marriage license from Chaffee County. At a minimum, you’ll likely want to purchase wedding attire, hire a photographer, videographer, florist, hair and makeup artist. You may also need to account for travel, transportation and lodging.

The total cost for your wedding will vary significantly depending on the style of wedding you choose to have. For example, a simple elopement with no guests will be much more affordable than a wedding with guests which you will then need a venue to host a reception, cater food, hire additional vendors, etc. It’s important to note that elopements can be as simple or as extravagant as you desire, there is no set cost for this type of wedding!

The couples that hire us value their photos and experience more than anything, which is why they typically spend majority of their budget on their photography package.
