Surprise engagement at Maroon Bells in Aspen

Maroon Bells is one of those places that doesn’t really need an intro. Two of the most photographed peaks in North America, a glassy lake out front, and light in the morning that’s hard to believe is real. We love photographing Maroon Bells proposals – and Aubrey & Brandon’s sunrise surprise proposal might be in our top five of all time!

Maroon Bells Proposal

Brandon timed this one perfectly. We went out the first day after opening day in May, so there was still snow on the peaks but the crowds hadn’t really kicked in yet. Sunrise, no one around, just us and the Bells.

And then, right before Brandon was about to propose, a group of deer came trotting up out of nowhere. Like, right up to us. They hung around for a few minutes, totally chill, and were surrounding us for the whole moment. Aubrey had no idea any of it was coming – not the proposal, not us, definitely not the deer. Brandon dropped to one knee with Maroon Bells behind him and a few deer casually grazing in the frame. You can’t really plan that kind of thing!
