Where To Elope At Loveland Pass
Loveland pass elopement locations

the summit
Right at the top of Loveland Pass is classic Colorado – sweeping alpine views, jagged peaks, and huge open skies. There are multiple hiking trails, as well as more accessible options that don’t require a hike.
It can be windy here, and often is, so you need to be prepared for the cold regardless of season.

the lake
Just off the road you’ll find peaceful alpine lakes tucked into the high basin below the summit. These spots offer softer reflections, gentler terrain, and a more intimate vibe while still keeping that high-mountain feel.
They’re perfect if you want that big mountain backdrop but with a little more calm and ease – and they’re a great way to beat wind or harsher exposure up top.

Nearby Locations
Why stop at just one spot? Loveland Pass is nearby to soo many other epic elopement locations.
You don’t have to hike far for good views. Most trails we hike with couples are 1-4 miles roundtrip!
When To Elope At Loveland Pass
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO ELOPE at loveland pass
While Loveland Pass is open year-round, except for the occasional closures. The good news is, you can check if Loveland Pass is open online. There’s also a webcam of Loveland Pass so you can view current condition, and check the weather forecast for Loveland Pass to always be prepared!
The best time for an elopement is from late spring to early fall. During these months, the weather is more predictable and the trails are typically clear of snow. Plan your elopement from mid-June to the first week of October for the best chances of accessibility.
We always recommend having your wedding on a weekday (Monday-Thursday) to minimize the amount of tourists that will be in the area.
Sunrise or sunset is the best time of day to elope for the most privacy and best lighting! Sunrise is colder and typically has nobody around, while sunset is also beautiful, warmer, and can have a few more hikers and photoshoots happening in the area.

Spring Loveland Pass Elopement
April, May & start of june
Since Loveland Pass is at almost 12,000ft, April and May are still winter. You can expect lots of snow and cold temperatures.
Things begin to warm up in June, but snow is still possible! The start of June is likely to have a decent amount of snow on the ground still. You can post-hole in the deep snow up until around mid-June, depending on the snow pack of the previous winter. Late June, the snow is likely to be gone in most places but the trails may be a bit muddy still.
Summer Loveland Pass Elopement
End of june to mid-September
Summer is our personal favorite time of year to photograph elopements at Loveland Pass as it offers warmer weather (yet still chilly in the mornings and evenings) and snow-free trails. There can be wildflowers present in July and August!
Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Colorado mountains, especially during the summer months. However, these rain storms can mostly be avoided by opting for a sunrise or sunset event.

Fall Loveland Pass Elopement
Mid-September and October
If you’re looking for fall colors, it’s best to plan your elopement in nearby locations such as Dillon, Breckenridge or Guanella Pass. While the ground cover does turn an orange tint, there are no aspens at Loveland Pass for a true “fall” elopement. However, there is a nearby aspen grove we love to take our couples to in the fall!
It’s also important to note that it can be very cold and even snowy this time of year, so plan accordingly and have a back-up location incase of closures!
Winter Loveland Pass Elopement
November to march
Winter at Loveland Pass is beautiful- but COLD! The pass itself, right by the road, usually doesn’t have too much snow as it’s so windy up there it gets blown off. However, the hiking trails and nearby lakes are sure to be covered.
Be aware that the Loveland Pass DOES close occasionally, so it’s very important to have a back-up location nearby you can pivot to if need be.

Loveland Pass Elopement & Wedding FAQs

To legally complete the elopement you’ll need to get a Colorado marriage license which is just $30 from Summit County. Then, you can decide if you want to self-solemnize or hire an officiant.
02
Loveland Pass Wedding Permit
Generally no permit is required to elope at Loveland Pass as long as you have a small guest count (less than 10) and the only vendor you are bringing is your photographer/videographer.
If you are planning a Loveland Pass wedding with a large guest count, bringing in third-party vendors or setting up any type of props you may need a permit for your event, and you should contact the National Forest Service.
03
loveland pass drive information
Loveland Pass is one of those classic Colorado mountain drives that feels a little wild in the best way. Highway 6 climbs all the way up and over the Continental Divide with big, open views. It’s paved, but there are no guardrails, so you’re looking straight down into valleys as you go.
The pass provides an alternate route to the Eisenhower Tunnel for vehicles that cannot go through the tunnel. It’s absolutely stunning, but it’s also narrow, steep, and exposed, so take it slow!
